Hypnosis and Coaching – a gentle option in your recovery process

Long-COVID syndrome is the name given to persistent after-effects of a coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19 infection), even after the typical convalescence period of COVID-19. Older people and people with serious medical conditions are the most likely to experience lingering COVID-19 symptoms. However, even young people and those who experienced only mild COVID-19 symptoms may feel unwell for weeks or even months after infection (1).

What do the experts say?

There is still relatively little data about the long-term effects and above all, systematic long-term studies are scarce. However, what can be seen from the currently available studies and initial reports of experience is that the most common long-COVID symptoms are (2):

  • Persistent fatigue
  • Complete exhaustion
  • Low resilience
  • Headaches
  • Muscle weakness and joint pain
  • Disturbance in smell and taste
  • Memory and concentration problems
  • Sleep difficulties
  • Emotional disturbance including anxiety and depression
  • Shortness of breath

You are not alone (3). A recently conducted cohort study, in canton Zurich, found that 6 months after symptom onset 26% reported not having returned to their normal health state (4).

The duration and severity of the long-COVID symptoms can vary greatly. In general, experts agree that people with severe symptoms need some time to fully recover from COVID-19. People experiencing prolonged symptoms should seek medical advice. After classifying the symptoms, hypnotherapy can be useful in alleviating symptoms and bringing relief.

Even if the interaction of all interventions does not lead to a complete elimination of the symptoms, hypnotherapy as well as coaching, serve, first and foremost, to re-harness your own potential and to re-energise yourself. It can, in any case, help you get through this difficult phase in life more easily.
